Northumberland’s a fabulous place to enjoy glamping in the UK with the kids. You can make the most of the great outdoors, and what better place to stay than in your very own Wigwam? Ancient castles, golden sand beaches, rolling hills, rugged moorland and friendly little market towns, together with the novel experience of this great accommodation, you’re guaranteed a fun break!
This is by far one of our favourite locations for glamping in the UK with kids. We will be surrounded by countryside with a sweep of incredible sea views towards the Farne Island. Bamburgh Castle and the Cheviot Hills serve as a breath-taking backdrop to the area. On this fabulous glamping holiday we’ll be staying on a working organic farm close to the superb Northumberland heritage coastline. The farm is located just 1 mile from Seahouses and it’s traditional fishing harbour, and 3 miles from Bamburgh and its magnificent castle and sand dunes. Our accommodation is a short walk from miles of empty beaches that you and the kids will adore. The farm is surrounded by country lanes making the location perfect for cycling and walking. You’ll love exploring the area whilst taking in the stunning scenery and enjoying the fresh air.
A short drive takes us to the spellbinding charm of Lindisfarne Island, Alnwick, noted for its Garden and more castles than any other county in England.
Wildlife is one of the major attractions to the area making it the perfect location for glamping with the kids. Directly opposite are the world-famous Farne Islands, a bird sanctuary which is home to hundreds of thousands of visiting seabirds and one of the UK’s largest grey seal colonies. Any keen nature lovers in the family will thoroughly enjoy a day visit here.
Boat trips to the islands leave from Seahouses during the season (Easter – October). Watch red squirrels roaming the grounds of Alnwick’s Hulne Park or why not take a Puffin Cruise to Coquet Island off Amble? This is where thousands of puffins congregate during the breeding season.
This glamping trip is packed with sight-seeing opportunities as there are castles and country houses galore. There are even some remaining sections of Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site which can also be found in Northumberland.. So bring your walking boots and let’s get ready to explore!
Taking your kids on one of our glamping trips in the UK is a fantastic way to unwind and spend quality time together away from the stresses of daily life.
All of our glamping holidays are child friendly and packed full of fun and adventures that your little ones will love! Set in beautiful scenery, with plenty of places to explore, this is a getaway the whole family will always remember. You can forget the hassle of long journeys and simply enjoy your time in the stunning British countryside.

" Ava and I have had an amazing time. This was our first SWK holiday and we weren’t sure what to expect. However, the setup and friendliness of the people put us quickly at ease. We would definitely consider coming back on another one. Thank you to Lisa and everyone at SWK for a lot of good memories. "

" It was our second year in the Wigwams and not disappointed. We have had a fabulous time. Days at the beach, Alnwick Castle and fish and chips on the harbour. Great to spend time with old friends and make new ones too. Lisa and Cath did a great job coordinating us all, organising day trips, evening meets and helping the group to mingle. Top job ladies. Thanks for helping us make fab memories. "
" We’ve had a great week. This was our first SWK holiday and I was a bit apprehensive before coming but I was greeted by Cath as soon as I got here – who is very friendly, as are all of the guests. It’s been so nice meeting such lovely people and for Ey having people his own age to play with. It’s been good having optional stuff planned. I enjoyed all the day trips and the BBQ together. The facilities here are good. The kitchen in the bunk barn could be a bit bigger/better set out and have an extra fridge, but that is a minor detail. A memorable, enjoyable week. Thanks very much and hope to see you soon. "
" That was a very good holiday and my favourite part was seeing the seals and the puffins. I also liked going to the beach. I loved going to Alnwick Castle and seeing the giant in the pond. I liked staying in the bunk house and I liked the bedroom. "
" The holiday was very eventful. We enjoyed our time on the site and the coordinators Lisa and Cath were very kind and helpful when we got to the site and throughout the holiday. Our favourite part was being down at the beach and in the sea. The Wigwams were very nice and the people were great. "
" Second trip to Seahouses and Sam and I have had a great trip. Enjoyed beach trips and fish and chips by the harbour. Cath and Lisa organised well and ensured everyone was involved. Great time had by us both. Thank you. "
" Really lovely informative coordinators who brought the group together. Great and a friendly atmosphere we enjoyed this trip to the full. We would only change the weather. "
" Had a fabulous week here in Northumberland. Everyone is friendly and the coordinators were helpful and organised everyone. We have both thoroughly enjoyed it and my son is already planning the next trip away. "
" Just had yet another great trip in Northumberland. Lisa and Cath were fantastic coordinators. As usual the trips were well organised and quite entertaining. "
" This is my first time with SWK and we’ve loved it. The coordinators have been really helpful and brought everyone together. Christopher has made so many friends and loved the safe, fun environment. Can’t wait for the next one. "
" Being able to get to know and relax with like-minded parents in the evenings after fun days out with the kids. "
" This was our first holiday and it far exceeded my expectations. The setting and accommodation was fabulous and the other holidaymakers were great. My children made friends immediately and the host did everything possible to introduce people and include everyone there. We came home and booked another break away immediately. Highlights were the boat trip followed by everyone picnicing on the beach! The experience was a little daunting ... I nearly cancelled! ... but I was immediately made to feel welcome as the host knew our names, had been expecting us and introduced us to everyone. It couldn't have gone better. "
" Beautiful part of the country, fab accommodation, great company! "
" Great holiday and resort. Relaxed group, all got on well, great organisation, loved it.
"
" Everyone was really friendly. The location was great and the accommodation very comfortable and provided us with everything we needed. Highlights were seeing my kids have some freedom and having fun with their new friends. Drinking wine with my new friends!! It's a great way for you and your kids to have a holiday without feeling like you're on your own. "
" The facilities well exceeded expectations. I really thought Bill was excellent , he made sure everyone was included and was super organised and clear. I ve been away with mango and it was a bit chaotic, it was so great to have a clear itinerary from the start which we could either do or not. Bill really had impressive skills at managing a group which I appreciate is not to be underestimated! "
" The amazing scenery - what an incredible spot! Watching the kids just have such a wonderful time, out in the open doing outdoorsy fun. "
" A great holiday in fun accommodation. Even though this was our second year there were still plenty of new things to do as well as going back to the places we loved the most. Linda was a great co ordinator taking care of everyone. "
" It's such a lovely site with great staff. I can't wait to go again. All activities were very good. particularly liked the evening ideas that helped everyone come together. "
" Plenty to see and do to keep kids and adults happy and in a great location with easy access to beautiful sandy beaches. Wigwam site layout with the central barbecue area is ideal for group socialising. "
" This holiday was brilliant, and we have met some wonderful people, an amazing group of parents and children in the wigwams. The seaside location is perfect, and the wigwam accommodation and facilities are excellent "
" We had a brilliant time and bonded together as a group in the wigwams. We would definitely book another trip. The highlight? Meeting other mums in the same situation as myself. Hearing the kids talk about what a lovely time they had had one the way home. "
" So much to do, and a fabulous barn. The highlights? The days out – Alnwick and Lindisfarne boat trip. For my daughter, the day at the beach. So much to do, and a fabulous barn! We’ve already booked xmas at Hargate and really looking forward to it. We really loved the bunk barn option instead of camping "
" The highlight? Seeing all the kids having such a good time together – an ideal way to holiday with children when you are on your own "
" A beautiful part of the country, with so much to do and so many options whatever age your child. My son and I both loved it "
" It was great to have other single mums to talk to as well as other children for mine to play with. There were lots of planned activities but you could choose to opt in or out which was great. Also, those without their own transport teamed up with families who had space in their car, where possible which meant you got to know each other more quickly. "
" I have just returned from my first SWK holiday to Majorca. What a fab time we had. Of course it was nerve racking to start with but everyone was so friendly. A big thank you to Chrissie who made us so welcome. Everyone helped everyone out so it felt like you were on holiday with your family – perfect for people like me who have children of different ages with very different interests and needs.
When I think of the 3 holidays I took the kids on before SWk on my own and how lonely I felt and compare it to Majorca there is no comparison !!! I made some great friends that I have seen since arriving back in England – even though they live “up North” and they have introduced me to other SWK members too! My kids made great friends too, who they cant wait to meet up with at Wickstead. So if you are reading this and you have booked something and are nervous – don’t be! you will have a great time If you are thinking about taking the plunge and booking a SWK holiday go on do it! "
