Easter in the Fort

North Wales is a fabulous destination for a cheeky little Easter jaunt. Breathtaking scenery,  stunning coastline and lots to do – and what’s more, we’re staying in an old fortress for  this trip!  The accommodation is spread across a number of large, well appointed, group cottages within a Fort, in 40 acres of private land in a seaside location.  The Fort is situated on the North West Wales coast, only nine miles from Caernarfon by road, and  on the tip of a peninsula. This gives fabulous views across to the Menai Strait and the Isle of Anglesey and the area enjoys fabulous views and sunsets.
Safe bathing may be enjoyed from Dinas Dinlle beach. This is a very fine three mile stretch of golden sand which slopes gently into the sea and so is suitable for adults and children alike.

This holiday is a firm favourite amongst SWK single parents with so much to do and a lovely location shared with friends old and new. The sunsets here are amazing and you really do feel like you’ve left all your worries behind.

Things to do

The unique location of the Fort provides an ideal base for exploring and visiting some stunning sites in North Wales. Travel on the Great Little Trains of Wales. Explore the unique and mysterious Lleyn peninsula or ride into Snowdonia, to the peak of Snowdon on the famous Snowdon Mountain Railway. Some of the finest mediaeval castles in Britain are only a short drive away –  Caernarfon, Conwy, Beaumaris and Harlech are truly impressive and in fact  the whole area is steeped in history, myth and legend. Visit the awe inspiring Hydro Electric Mountain in Llanberis, see Museums, Zoos, Sea Life Centres, Woollen Mills, Potteries or Craft Shops. In this part of North Wales the list of attractions for visitors is endless.

When you’ve seen the sites, there are some great beaches locally and rock pooling is a must! Or simply chill out in the lovely surroundings of the Fort with new found friends whilst the kids play. This is YOUR holiday and it can be as full or as laid back as you want it to be.

A great location for an Easter holiday in Wales – the Fort is in Gwynedd, North Wales. The nearest station is Bangor, the postcode for sat navs is LL54 5TP.

To check directions by public transport, we recommend using Google maps 🙂

Carol, Charlie (13) and Lucas (8) - (Easter in the Fort 2018)

" Great location. This was our second visit to Fort Belan and we will definitely be booking again. Lot’s to do in the area and the Fort is lovely. Really cosy and a fantastic location for a group holiday. Cath is a great coordinator and has the balance just right of looking after everyone, making sure the group get along and allowing families to do their own thing as well. We have had a great time and don’t want to go home!

I had an amazing time and couldn’t of had a better time.
Charlie (13)

Caroline and Matthew - (Easter in the Fort 2018)

" It was our second visit to the Fort and was just as good as the first. The location is fantastic and there is loads of space for people to mix as they want. My son was delighted to see so many old friends from previous SWK trips and loved the beach, playing “infection” in the grounds and lighting fires in the evenings. Cath did a great job as coordinator. The weather was terrible so the planned itinerary had to be changed and she did a great job of recreating and organising activities to do in the rain that appealed to the age ranges of children on the trip. We are gutted to have to leave after three nights and hope to be back again at some point in the future.

Gill and Abigail - (Easter in the Fort 2018)

" Had a fantastic time at the Fort. Loved meeting old friends and made some great new ones. Trips were well planned and Cath ensured everyone was included. Would definitely book it again and hope Cath would coordinate it.

I really liked this holiday because of how lovely everybody was and the sleepovers were epic! However it would be better if it was two weeks long!
Abigail "

Wendy and Emily - (Easter in the Fort 2018)

" Me and Emily had a fab time. Cath was really good looking after us especially as the weather wasn’t good. Anyone coming with Cath should ask her to cook Marmite pasta! Thank you.

Jo and Jake - (Easter in the Fort 2018)

" A fantastic trip at the Fort. My cottage ‘By the Way’ was lovely. Cath was an absolutely amazing coordinator who was brilliant at getting everyone together for days out and we loved the bonfire on the beach. Thank you Cath for making our stay so memorable.

Lisa, Lily and Eleanor - (Easter in the Fort 2018)

" We’ve had another fantastic trip at the Fort. Cath has been a fabulous coordinator. She organised lots of new activities and some old favourites too. Alison and Sam - (Easter in the Fort 2018)

Laura - (Easter in the Fort 2018)

" Such a great holiday. My daughter felt a little bit out of it on the first day but Cath noticed straight away and helped introduce her to the other kids and kept checking on her throughout the holiday. It was so lovely. Happy baby = happy mummy. Lots of great new friends made and can’t wait for Cath’s next trip. I’ll definitely be going.

Catherine, Katie, Christie and Naomhan - (Easter in the Fort 2018)

" This is our third time here at the Fort and our first time having Cath as a coordinator. There were a few plumbing issues in our house which Cath promptly looked into. Despite the mixed weather we have had a really great week full of happy memories. The setting of the Fort is stunning. Cath was warm and inclusive and really made an effort to think of interesting things to do each day. The group got on well and the left over buffet on the last night was a fab idea.

Doug and Oliver (10) - (Summer in the Fort 2017)

Penny, Lily (11), Harry (9) and Grace (5) - (Summer in the Fort 2017)

" After looking the SWK holidays website for over a year, I finally booked a break with my kids. Fort Belan over the summer has been great. Our accommodation consisted of two interlinked twin rooms which worked perfectly. I have 3 children, there were loads of activities for them to join in with, the highlight being the campfire on the beach. "

Warren and Charlie (4) - (Summer in the Fort 2017)

" Simply great! "

Carey and Thomas 4 - (Summer in the Fort 2016)

It was an ideal place for the children to have a sense of freedom but also assurance that they were safe (particularly when the gates were locked in the evening) "

Vaughan & Katie 9, Ciaran 8 - (Summer in the Fort 2016)

" A great location and the Fort was a great trip as usual. Special praise for Dawn (coordinator) for her friendly outlook and for being very organised. "

Lisa & Lily 10, Eleanor 10 - (Summer in the Fort 2016)

" All of it really, but for us all it was the sociable aspect. I've had holidays where I've sat on my own watching my kids play and this was much more fun with other people around. The location as well is so beautiful and the sunsets were amazing! The girls said it was their best holiday EVER and I can't argue with that! "

Cath & Kiera 9 - (Easter in the Fort 2016)

" Fantastic holiday! Jess was an amazing coordinator, didn't want to come home, really hope you do it again next year. Cottages were lovely, location amazing but having a good coordinater makes a real difference even Jess son Alex was great helping with luggage can't praise them enough. "
