Meeting new partners
« on: June 02, 2016, 09:07:25 AM »
How do people deal with having new partners around their kids and differing views on parenting and discipline? I would really like to meet someone to spend my life with. Although I have had a couple of relationships, I have been on my own with my kids for such a long time that everything regarding their upbringing has been up to me and I worry that I would never be able to let another person be a full part of our family.

I've had two relationships since my hubby (one still around ) and to be honest discipline is left to me for my kids. Occasionally I'll get a 'look' if he thinks I'm being too harsh (or soft !) and we'll discuss it later but he never steps in.  It works better for us like that as it maintains a good relationship between him and the children,  and it means neither of us undermines the other.

I guess the answer is communication, making sure you both discuss it carefully and know where you both stand ?

Never ... second biggest parenting mistake I ever made was letting my children form attachments with a girlfriend.

Of course the #1 mistake was the choice of womb donor.  Live & learn.
