Yes, I got a cheap one from lidl/aldi about 10 years ago - doesn't do 5cm tho', but is nonetheless more comfy (and warmer) than lying on the ground.

kurtis uses similar and gets on ok with them. We also give them to the cadets as some can pack really small
on another planet or so I'm told

I've used self inflating mats for years now, and they are much better than blow up air beds, although they are a different type of comfortable, if that makes sense?  It's more like sleeping on the floor, with a bit of cushioning!  My best camp bed is a self inflating mattress on a cheap camp cot (£6 from Argos!) - now that is camping luxury!!!   ;D   :-*

I use a self inflating mat, I far prefer it to an air bed. It is warmer for a start.

Ooh have been looking at these.

Our air bed went down on our practice camp which I think the always do. It seemed worse though as all the weight was in one place. Me and my 6yo limpet! Usually there is another big person at the other side to I've some balance.

If not a camping mat might single air beds be better or anyone have any recommendations? If you go with younger kids do you share a camping mat or would you need 2?

The one I have is this type of thing. Comfy to start with but not for long..!

Thanks.

just had 6 nights on my self inflating mat ...... im going back to a double airbed. (thats just for me tho). Char has a camp bed and loves it.

its ideal for a couple of nights, but ive got back ache now.

would like a big camp bed but i think the down sizing of the car will stop me doing that.

ah well i tried  ;D

Got 2 sim from Tesco value range for New Fores, a quick buy when I realised double mattresses wouldn't fit in new tent. They were about £6 each and only inflate to 2.5 cm ,but we found them really comfy and much warmer than air bed. They only come in lime green tho...
