Sounds like a good buy to me.

I got the Mojave 5 a few weeks ago and has stood up to some seriously bad weather this weekend   ::) ::).    The Atakama has similar size and design and same HH so should be fine.    I do recommend some good quality pegs though, dont use the ones provided invest in some decent ones

I totally agree! I saw a few tents this weekend that came with the thinnest pegs imaginable, I've no idea how they stayed standing in the winds.

When you put up a few different tents you really can see the difference in quality between them. Cheap tent pegs is one, but also the general build quality - a good brand like Vango / Outwell etc can be so much smoother to put up than a Tesco bucket offer that never quite seems to fit properly and only has a handful of guy ropes.

I haven't used a Hi-Gear but there were some impressive looking Hi-Gear tents at Norfolk and their owners sang their praises.

I've got an Atakama 5 berth and it is great!! However, last year we spent 4 nights in the Lakes and it took some hammering!! Torrential rain and wind!!!! Unfortunately, the inside seam for the porch leaked...after closer inspection it hadn't actually been sealed...of course I didn't notice this when I did the trial run!!! Luckily, it didn't leak in the bedroom. When we returned I took it back to Go Outdoors and they were happy to change it. I then inspected every seam very carefully before camping again in the Peaks....thankfully, absolutely no leaks this time and it is brilliant!!

Definately an absolutely fantastic purchase!!!  8) 8) 8)

Ps...would like to use it in some dry, sunny weather now!!!  8) 8) 8)

I love my Hi Gear tent, i have the Kalahari 8, its two years old now and admittedley did start to leak at the end of last season, (a really heavy storms weekend) i have now waterproofed it and it stood up to the Peaks and The lovely East coast, both with high winds and heavy rain!

I would definately buy Hi Gear again!

I have a Hi Gear GOBI 4 man a Go outdoors weekly special from a few years ago - stood up to hugh winds and rain okay - although not too sure about the benefit of the footprint when it seems to fill with rain and slowly soak into bedroom - may dispense with if rain forcast for next trip.

Pegs provided were okay with mine.

You need to make sure your foot print is under the edge of your tent, mine is too biag for the tent, so i need to turn it under slightly.

I've become a Hi Gear tart this year.

Tent, camp beds, chair

My tent is the Voyager 6 and it's massive!  most of them are a lot wider than other makes and give loads of living space.  I saw the one you're considering at Go Outdoors and it's a good size and that's a fantastic price.

They're made by Gelert so have lots of clever features and I love mine.
It stood up to torrential rain and crazy winds in Norfolk last week and  went back in the bag!

Why do you need a bed when you're going to be up all night playing pranks on those who dare to fall asleep people?
