Single Parents Christmas Party – your questions

Christmas Party – Frequently Asked Questions

Although we try and put as much information as possible on our holiday pages, if you’re new to Single With Kids we’re sure you’ll have more questions! We’ve tried to cover all of these below, if you have any queries that aren’t answered below, please do email us at events@singlewithkids.co.uk

The Holiday

1. Do you provide transport?

We have families travelling from all over the UK so can’t provide transport but we do encourage car sharing. Please do post on our forum to see if anyone lives nearby.

2.  I don’t know anyone…

You’re in the majority! Most of the families on the trip will never have met before. You may be strangers to begin with, you’ll end up leaving as friends. There is minced pies and mulled wine on the first night which is always a good icebreaker.

3. What is the board basis?

This holiday is self catering – we will have mince pies and mulled wine/ non-alcoholic punch on the Friday night and there will be a buffet on the Saturday evening.

 4. What is included in the price of the holiday?

SWK have exclusive use of the whole house! The cost is based on a shared or private room in the self contained apartments.

The holiday will be accompanied by a Single With Kids coordinator who will organise group events and outings. These events are not obligatory, feel free to dip in and out as you choose.

5. How big will the group be?

This trip will have around 30 families – ideal to create the perfect Christmas party atmosphere!

6. What group activities will there be?

Arriving on Friday evening, you will have a chance to enjoy the facilities at the Hall, make new friends and prepare for our Christmas event. We’ll enjoy warm mince pies and mulled wine on Friday evening by a roaring fire, with the main “party” taking place on Saturday afternoon with a visit by Father Christmas, our magician (with Christmas party games) and culminating in a buffet and disco.

7. Are dogs allowed?

Unfortunately we don’t allow dogs on our holidays.

The Accommodation

1. Is bedding provided ?

Yes bedding is provided and they will be made up on arrival.

2.  How big is Hargate Hall?

The hall has 12 self contained apartments – all of different sizes.  They are all fully furnished and equipped with mod cons! You also have a kitchen with all the equipment you need!

There are comfy communal areas with sofas, chairs and tables.

Outside you will find loads of places for the children to explore and quieter places to sit and admire the views.

3. Is there parking outside the property?

Yes, there is a car park right outside the house.

 4. What other things do I need to bring?

Food and drink!

The apartments are heated with a mix of electricity and open fires. The electricity runs off meters taking £1 coins, it’s worth stocking up on these in advance.

We’re in Derbyshire and it’s likely to be chilly. Bring warm clothes for indoors and out, waterproof shoes or wellies are recommended for the kids as it’s likely they’ll want to play in the adventure playground. We’ve been lucky enough to have snow the last three years at Hargate (Buxton has it’s own micro-climate!), it may be worth bringing a sledge along just in case.

Fancy dress costumes  The party on Saturday night is fancy dress and although not obligatory we do find the vast majority of guests like to dress up and let their hair down. The theme is (appropriately) “Christmas” although anything goes  – and we look forward to seeing lots of tinsel and fairy wings.

Firewood Most of the apartments have real fires as well as electric heaters.

5. What is the check in/out times?

You can check in from 4 pm and check out is at 10 am on the day of departure.

6. Is there WiFi there?

No there isnt. Also phone signal can be a little sparce.

The Resort

Hargate Hall was built in 1899 as a Gentleman’s residence and is a large country house set in over seven acres of parkland and is situated near Buxton, right in the centre of the Peak District National Park. In 1990 it was converted into 12 self-catering apartments, which is how it remains today.

1. What is the nearest train station?

This is in Dove Holes which is 4 miles from the house. A taxi from here will cost approximately £10.00

2.  Where is the nearest shop?

The nearest supermarkets are in Buxton around a 5 mile drive from the house.
