Glastonbury Carnival Weekend
A fabulous event in the Autumn calendar, the Glastonbury Carnival is the town centre’s largest event of the year with a procession of illuminated floats lasting all evening.
The processions are part of an ancient tradition, which stretches back as far as the 1600′s when many parts of Somerset commemorated the Gunpowder plot. Grand firework displays and street entertainment adds to the sense of fiesta and fun.
The floats can be huge, over 50 feet long and covered in hundreds of light bulbs. Dwarfing the streets, these magnificent creations drawing awe and wonder from the crowds are the results of months of work by the Carnival Clubs. A major spectacle, the town is full of people and fun and the atmosphere is fantastic.
The weekend will begin with a get together on Friday night to break the ice – a bring-your-own buffet usually results in a fantastic spread and a warm welcome.
After breakfast on Saturday we will head to a local attraction or (weather permitting) a local walk, returning to Glastonbury early evening in time for the carnival.
Nearby attractions include Wookey Hole caves and dinosaur valley, the Peat Moors centre, shoe museum, local walks and the lovely town of Glastonbury.
This trip runs for 2 nights from Friday 17th November to Sunday 19th November 2017
In the heart of the Somerset, our accommodation is in Street near Glastonbury. The post code for those with sat nav is BA16 0TZ. The nearest mainline train station is at Bridgewater, 13 miles (and then by bus).
The trip is suitable for children aged 4 and above – unfortunately we cannot accommodate babies in shared rooms unless you can find someone willing to share.
There are always a lot of questions we simply can’t answer on one page. Do check out the Glastonbury Carnival Frequently Asked Questions page for the nitty gritty detail on this holiday.
For general UK questions then please look on the UK FAQ page
We’re staying in a lovely swiss style chalet overlooking Glastonbury Tor. Surrounded by National Trust land there’s plenty of space for the children to run around – always a benefit! The chalet is within easy reach of the Mendip Hills, Somerset Levels, mystical Glastonbury and historic Wells. The amenities of the town of Street are also close by.
This is a self-catering trip. A kitchen is available and we will start the weekend with a ‘bring-your-own’ buffet on Friday evening. It’s also likely we’ll eat out somewhere on the Saturday.
The cost includes self catering accommodation in shared rooms or a small number of private rooms for 3 people families. Bedding is provided. The Glastonbury Carnival has free admission but aims to raise money for a variety of charities – there will be a number of collectors around (take lots of coins).
There are 28 places on this trip in shared rooms – a great way to break the ice and forge good friendships (a maximum of 6 beds per room)
This is suitable for all ages however for obvious reasons children under 4 cannot be accommodated in shared rooms unless you’ve found a similar family willing to share.

" “We have had the most amazing two years with SWK and been on about 20 holidays. My girls absolutely love their trips away so they’re not missing out on holidays. The SWK trips are so fantastic that the girls will be talking about them nostalgically as adults.” "
" “It was fantastic! Lots of friends for Maddie, and I really appreciated the chance to chill out with a lovely bunch of people. Effectively 20 babysitters, the way we all looked out for one another’s kids and felt comfortable doing so. Will definitely be back! Would like to say thanks. Both Maddie and I blossomed on this holiday. It has shown me that I can cope with anything life throws at me because no matter how it feels when I’m at home with all my coupled up friends, I’m not unusual and there are people in the same boat. And what’s more they are fantastic people who I really want to keep in touch with. It may sound a bit sappy but coming away with SWK has totally changed my outlook on life. (Don’t you think that a lot of the time we were having way more fun than the ‘traditional’ families?! Thanks again x” "
" “This holiday is certainly included on my list of best things I have ever done! Alex had a fabulous time as did I. He always had someone to play with and we both gained a lot from the holiday. I can’t wait to go somewhere with SWK again. We both have some great memories. It was relaxed, weather great, right amount of trips, plenty to do. Good value for money.” "
" “The best holiday I have ever had with my son!” "
" “A really lovely holiday with good company.” "
" “Best hols I’ve ever been on, was relaxed from the start, the overall package of the holiday was just fantastic could not wish for a better place to stay and everything was ideal for my son, met lots of wonderful people from SWK from the start of the holiday and went home with a lot of wonderful new friends. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” "
" “It was great to have adult company, the kids always had someone to talk/hang out with. Plenty of trips offered but no pressure to take part. Entertainment at hotel was good. Loved every minute of holiday Location was excellent, beach couldn’t have been nearer if you tried. Chrissie was absolutely brilliant, made everyone feel so welcome, group events planned but no pressure to join in. Couldn’t have asked to have met a better group of people. Have made so many new friends. Excellent value for money even though i paid for 7 !!!!!.” "
" “Beth had a fantastic time with new friends. This is a big part of our going away with SWK. She gets friends to play with 24/7 and I get a rest and some adult company. Stunning location with very friendly staff. Great caterers for several nights. So nice to be spared the cooking and delicious food!” "
" “This was our first SWK holiday. We had the most fantastic welcome from the two Linda’s who worked tirelessly throughout the holiday. Everyone gelled so well and the children had the most amazing time. On Sun/Mon groups of us went out and about so there was no pressure to participate if you didn’t want to. Conkers was a superb attraction to visit.” "
" “Totally loved it from the moment we opened the door to our yurt which was the most beautiful, sumptuiously decorated ‘tent’ ever…and the site was just idilic, perfect…I loved the freedom the girls had to roam the surrounding woodland with their new friends. We all made new friends, it was a perfect sized group, everyone was lovely.” "
