Canterbury Break

Canterbury is full of charm and has the perfect blend of  city, coast and countryside, ensuring that however varied your interests are, you will be spoilt for choice.

This is a great value holiday offering the opportunity to get away and experience Canterbury’s history and heritage, together with a fun single parent group holiday for all ages (and a Halloween party to boot!)

Nestled by the South East coast, Canterbury offers a traditional city, rich in culture and heritage with beautiful surrounding countryside sweeping through river valleys, woods and hills to the seaside towns of  Herne Bay and Whitstable.

This fabulous mixture of city, countryside and coast means that Canterbury has something to offer everyone.

For a taste of history in your weekend, visit one of the musuems;  Canterbury Heritage Museum offers hands-on displays and activities from millions of years ago to present day! The museum includes Stephenson’s original Invicta railway engine, Rupert Bear and the real Bagpuss!  A visit to The Roman Museum is always a popular choice. This is built around the remains of a Roman town house, and you can explore what life was like in Roman Britain.

There are many opportunities to get out and explore this magnificient city, with attractions to suit all ages of children and adult.

The bustling Whitefriars shopping centre in the heart of Canterbury has many high street names but you’ll find independent retailers along the old cobbled streets of the city such as The King’s Mile. And after all that shopping why not relax and enjoy the beauty of one of the city’s gardens. Just metres from the shopping centre is Dane John Gardens providing views of the city from the top of the historic mound. Absorb the tranquil beauty and stroll around the delightful Westgate Gardens or the smaller Franciscan Garden in which stands Greyfriars Chapel.

For family days out, nearby attractions are  Howletts Wild Animal Park, Wildwood and Druidstone Park.  Or visit the coast at Whitstable, Herne Bay & Dover.

A beautiful location  in the heart of Canterbury, Kent the postcode for sat navs is CT1 3JT.

Trains run frequently from London Victoria/ London Bridge Train Stations, Dover and other locations in the South East to Canterbury East and Canterbury West Stations. The nearest station is Canterbury East a 10 minute walk from the hostel.
